Bottle Size: N/A purchased draft

Cost: $2.00 (Happy hour special! Gotta love it!)

Alcohol (ABV): 6.0%

Background Information (via dogfish’s website): Our 60 Minute IPA is continuously hopped – more than 60 hop additions over a 60 minute boil (getting a vibe yet of where the name came from?). 60 Minute is a session India Pale Ale brewed with a slew of great NorthWest hops. A powerful, but balanced East Coast I.P.A. with a lot of citrusy hop character. The session beer for hardcore beer enthusiasts!

Every Beer Has A Story…

In our Quick Sip Clip video below, Sam Calagione talks about the 60 Minute IPA and for some perspective, compares this beer to its predecessor 90 Minute IPA and big-brother 120 Minute IPA. Sam stepped out of the brewery for the taping of this Quick Sip Clip and comes to us from the place where it all started – Dogfish Head, Maine (which, by the way, is a great area for a summer visit… especially if you have a cold 60 Minute IPA to sip while enjoying the fantastic coastal Maine sunsets!).

Now let’s get to the beer!

Style: American IPA

Appearance: Pours a nice slightly hazy, golden color with a white head. Nice retention and some  lacing.

Scent/Smell: Decent amount of hops from the onset.  Mostly sweet, citrusy, and spicy hops. Not a very strong scent coming from this one.

Taste: Very mild, limited bitterness, and lots of malts.Floral citrus hops are present, orange mostly, slight lemon and other citrus.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, quite smooth and easy going down. In addition, you feel the taste for a white after going down.

Drink with (food): Many cheeses, chicken, fish, salmon, and shellfish.

Grade: B+

Very solid IPA here. Will definitely try to drink this brew again. This is the perfect style to drink on a hot summer day hanging out with the family.

Cost: $3.50 (During happy hour)

Alcohol(ABV): 6.1%

Brief History (via wikipedia):

Speakeasy was founded in 1997 by Steve Bruce and Forest Gray.

Speakeasy brands its beers with humorous reference to 1930s prohibition-era mobsters and organized crime. Prohibition is one of the more popular local beers in San Francisco, available in approximately 200 bars and restaurants and 1,000 stores in the San Francisco Bay Area, although bottled beer is available regionally in California, eleven other states and British Columbia as well. Its beers are flavorful and high in alcohol, ranging from approximately 5% to 10% alcohol content by volume. Unlike many others, it does not operate on-site sales, restaurants, or other retail operations except tours by appointment on Fridays, as well as a Friday happy hour that is open to the public.

Now let’s get to the beer!

Style: Amber Ale

Appearance: Dark amber, off-white head, decent retention, minimal lacing

Scent/Smell: Floral, citrus/orange, sweet malt, and bread aromas

Taste: Above average amount of hops, a lot of  citrus and pine; got some sweet malts combined with bread like taste

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation with a light body, quite easy to drink. Typical of this style of beer.

Drink with (food): Beef, chicken, fish

Grade: B

This was a solid beer which I enjoyed and plan on drinking again. Not my favorite beer, but it’s definitely in the upper half of beers.

Next: Arrogant Bastard Ale
