via brews and blues

Bottle Size: 11.2 fl ounces/ 330mL

Cost: $1.75 (At a grocery store)

Alcohol (ABV): 4.9%

Background Information: Hoegaarden wheat beer has a truly unique heritage. From its humble beginnings in a small provincial village during the Middle Ages, it has grown to become a globally recognised brand, known all over the world as the original Belgian wheat beer.
Hoegaarden has survived through good times and bad, owing its success to a few special individuals, a resilient Belgian spirit and, of course, a truly unique taste that simply stands the test of time.

The original wheat beer is the oldest and most famous of Hoegaarden’s range. When poured, it forms a soft, white creamy head and leaves a generous lacing on the glass. Its naturally cloudy, pale hue shimmers when viewed through the glass.

Now let’s get to the beer!

Style: Witbier

Appearance:  Very cloudy, pale straw in color. Thick, foamy, white head with solid retention and nice lacing.

Smell/Scent: A great sweet malty and wheat smell. Some notes of clove and citrus in there as well.  Very appealing in the scent department.

Taste: Slightly sweet citrus, but with a slight sourness to it. I also get a mild spicy wheat flavor. There is quite a bit going on.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, a little light in terms of alcohol, but very smooth going down.

Grade: B

I enjoyed this beer a great deal. This is one of my go to beers when I go to the bodega by my house. Very good for its price.
